• Coaching focuses more on goals, action, and
outcomes rather than feelings and insight.
• Coaching is usually a shorter term process,
whereas counseling can take longer.
• Coaching is for people who are generally
functional but who want to improve a specific
area in their lives such as weight loss, career
change or improvement, performance
enhancement, better communication skills, etc.
• Coaching helps clients learn new skills and
tools to build a more satisfying, successful future.
• The relationship between coach and client is
more of an equal, co-creative partnership,
rather than a therapist/client relationship.
• Some coaching can take place in phone calls,
whereas counseling is almost always face to face.

• Define specific, SMART goals.
• Create strategies to achieve your goals.
• Identify challenges that block your success
